If you have ever had a mold taken of your teeth, you remember the tray, the cold putty, and a few long minutes of holding still and trying not to gag. The Roswell iTero scanner replaces all of that with a small handheld wand and a 3D scan you watch build on the screen next to you.

Dr. Charles Kirby uses that scan to plan Invisalign, veneers, crowns, bridges, and implant restorations. Nothing sets, nothing gets poured, and if one area needs a second pass, we rescan that spot instead of starting the whole impression over.

iTero and Digital Scanning FAQs

Does the iTero scan hurt?

No. The scanner is a handheld camera, so nothing presses into your teeth and nothing has to set. Most patients find it easier than a cleaning.

How long does a digital scan take?

Most full scans take about five to ten minutes, covering your upper teeth, lower teeth, and bite. Rescanning a single area takes seconds.

What does the Roswell iTero scanner do?

The Roswell iTero scanner captures a 3D digital model of your teeth, gums, and bite using a handheld camera. We use that model to plan Invisalign, veneers, crowns, bridges, implant restorations, and retainers.

Does the scanner use radiation?

No. The scanner works with light and a camera, not radiation. If Dr. Kirby also needs x-rays for your treatment, those are taken separately and explained first.

Will I still need a traditional putty impression?

Usually not. Digital scanning covers most of what we do, though a conventional impression is occasionally the better choice, and Dr. Kirby will tell you if your case is one of them.

Can I be scanned if I gag easily?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons patients prefer scanning. There is no tray in your mouth and no material to wait out, and you can stop and rest at any point.
