In order to maintain overall health and good oral health, you should visit your dentist twice a year for an exam and cleaning. Dr. Wyman B. Martin at The Martin Dental Center For Oral Health and Aesthetics offers a full range dental services for ages 3 & up. We currently have families coming to see Dr. Kirby, representing multiple generations. Your first visit establishes a vital foundation for our relationship with you. Our mission is working together to realize a shared vision of uncompromising excellence in dentistry.

Your Hygienist will check your teeth for plaque, stain and tartar buildup. Plaque is the sticky, colorless film of bacteria that forms on teeth. Tartar is a buildup of plaque that forms on the teeth. The only way to remove tartar is to see a dentist for a professional dental cleaning. After the plaque, tartar and stain are removed, the Hygienist will polish your teeth and if needed, x-rays will be taken in order for Dr. Kirby to check for cavities or other potential problems.

Dr. Kirby will check for cavities by examining your teeth and looking at your x-rays, which can show the extent of cavities and tooth decay and look for other problems in your jaw bones. Dental fillings are used to treat cavities, they are strong, durable and resistant to wear and can last for many years. During the exam, Dr. Kirby will do a visual check of your lips, tongue, salivary ducts & glands, throat, tonsils, lymph nodes in your neck and if visible, your thyroid gland. He will also examine your occlusion, the way your teeth fit together. Any cosmetic concerns that are troublesome to you will be discussed, and Dr. Kirby has many ways to improve your smile.

Oral Cancer screening

Checking for signs of oral cancer is part of a regular dental checkup. Dr. Kirby performs an examination to look for signs of oral cancer, precancerous conditions, identify suspicious looking growths that may need further evaluation.

Examine Your Gums

Examine gums for signs of periodontal disease (also known as gum disease). Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums surrounding your teeth. Periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss if it is not treated in a timely manner.

Prevent Tooth Loss

Skipping dental check-ups may cause early signs of tooth loss to go unnoticed. Early detection allows dental issues to be treated before tooth loss occurs. Tooth loss can detract from your physical appearance and lead to costly dental treatments.
